The rings are very thin, about 110 yards (100 m) in depth. They are narrow and separated by wide gaps. The gaps are filled with dust. A ring of dust probably extends all the way down from the inner ring to the atmosphere of Uranus. The innermost visible ring has a radius of 24,000 miles (38,000 km). The radius of the outermost ring is 32,000 miles (52,000 km).
Nine of the rings are no wider than about six miles. The widest ring is the outermost, called Epsilon. It is about 60 miles (97 km) wide. Saturn's rings, by comparison, are thousand of miles wide. The Epsilon ring has sharply defined edges. It is divided into light inner and outer areas and a darker middle area.
